BEST Program
The mission of BEST Field Hockey is to provide a year-round, elite coaching environment for ALL players to grow and have the potential to excel in Field Hockey.
All skill levels welcome. NO TRYOUT necessary!
If you are new to field hockey or year-round sports please let us explain the benefits of participation and how the program works. Year-round sports are a fantastic opportunity for skill improvement in any sport, especially field hockey which requires focused hand-eye coordination skills and the ability to incorporate those skills into a fast-paced team game.
The only way athletes learn and improve their skills is through practice, practice, practice! Consistent, elite level practices are just what Beach Elite Sports Training offers. As a member of BEST Field Hockey you will be presented with the opportunity to participate in weekly practices and compete in the established leagues of Virginia Beach Hockey League. The number of practices per week and the number of months during the year that practices are available depends on the age group of the athlete.
WHAT IS BEING OFFERED?
BEST Field Hockey has listened to your feedback and made some changes to help create more opportunities to accommodate field hockey players who participate on school field hockey teams and are looking for the chance to improve skills in the off-season. Please see the appropriate age group below for more information on what is being offered.
Beach Elite – Shallows (6-8 year olds)
Our youngest field hockey players are being offered 4 hour long practices per month beginning September 7th and lasting through January 7th. This will include 1 hour long practice per week held on Thursdays from 6-7pm. In addition to the practices offered the 6-8 year old age group will receive a discounted fee for participation in Virginia Beach Hockey League’s three leagues – Winter Indoor, Spring & Summer. VBHL’s leagues are six weeks each. For more information on each league please visit our Leagues page.

Beach Elite – Pipeline (9-11 year olds)
The 9-11 year old age group is being offered 4 one hour practices per month. This will include 1 hour long practice per week held on Sundays from 11am-12pm. This group has two options for participation in BEST Field Hockey.
- Year-round membership. This option includes 4 one hour practices per month beginning September 7th, 2010 and lasting through August 14th, 2011.
- Six Month membership. This option includes four one hour practices per month beginning either September 7, 2010 or February 13th, 2011 and lasting through March 7th, 2010 or August 14th, 2011, respectively.
Both options include a discounted fee for participation in Virginia Beach Hockey League’s three leagues – Winter Indoor, Spring & Summer. VBHL’s leagues are six weeks each. For more information on each league please visit our Leagues page.

Beach Elite – Mavericks (12-15+ year olds)
The 12-15+ year old age group is being offered eight one hour practices per month. This will include one weekday practice held on Thursdays (time TBA) and one weekend practice held on Sundays from 10-11am. This age group has several options for membership due to the possibility of participation on a school field hockey team.
- Year-round membership. This option includes eight one hour practices per month beginning September 7th, 2010 and lasting through August 14th, 2011.
- High School player membership. This option includes four one hour Sunday practices per month beginning September 7th, 2010 and lasting through October 31st, 2010 and eight one hour practices per month beginning November 1st, 2010 and lasting through August 14th, 2011. The monthly membership fee will reflect the number of practices being offered for the particular month of participation in the program.
- Middle School player membership. This option includes eight one hour practices per month beginning September 7th, 2010 and lasting through March 15th, 2011; four one hour Sunday practices per month from March 16th, 2011 through May 15th, 2011; and eight one hour practices per month from May 16th, 2011 through August 14th, 2011. The monthly membership fee will reflect the number of practices being offered for the particular month of participation in the program.
Field hockey players who make their school team and are still interested in continuing with regular participation in the year-round membership option are welcome to do so.

PRACTICES – WHAT TO EXPECT
The focus of BEST Field Hockey practices is the teaching of individual and team field hockey skills in an environment where every player can be successful and HAVE FUN! All practices are one hour in length and will consist of age and ability appropriate training from fundamental to elite level skills. Please arrive at practices 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to ensure proper warm-up and stretching as we will start field hockey skills training promptly at the listed practice times.
DOES BEST Field Hockey MEMBERSHIP INCLUDE COMPETITION?
The weekly practices for each age group are just that – practice. By practicing year round BEST field hockey players will have opportunity to build on the fundamental skills they possess and mature into the well-rounded field hockey players that middle school, high school and college coaches are looking to have on their teams.
In order to give BEST Field Hockey members a chance to compete and try their newly acquired skills in a game setting our field hockey players will participate in Virginia Beach Hockey League’s Winter Indoor, Spring, & Summer leagues at a discounted rate of $50 per season. This participation is included as part of the registration fee with Beach Elite Sports Training Field Hockey program. The league registration fee will be collected upon registration in September (for year round, six month or 6-8 year old contracts) or February (for six month contracts beginning in February). The three seasons of the Virginia Beach Hockey League give our field hockey players the opportunity to compete and show why they are the BEST!
CONTRACTS & COST
One Month Contract Option: BEST Field Hockey is happy to offer the option of monthly contracts for all age groups. Please see pricing chart below for fees associated with one month contracts.
If you select the one month option please note that you will only be eligible to receive the discounted rate for participation in Virginia Beach Hockey League’s three league seasons if you are a member of BEST Field Hockey for at least four months.
The registration fee associated with one month contracts is required to be paid one time for the BEST Field Hockey program year (September-August). If you choose to participate for more than one month you will not be required to pay any additional registration fee.
Four month, Six month and Yearly Contract Options:
The Beach Elite Shallows 6-8 year old age group is offered the option of a four month contract for membership.
The Beach Elite Pipeline 9-11 year old age group is offered the options of a 6-month or a 1-year contract for membership.
The Beach Elite Mavericks 12-15+ age group is offered a 1-year contract with 3 options for membership – Year-round membership, High School player membership, Middle School player membership.

PRACTICE LOCATION
All practices will be held at the NEW Virginia Beach Field House. The field surface is the new evolution in sport turf. This state of the art synthetic grass is safer than real grass due to the regularity of the surface (i.e., no field holes or divots). It consists of 2″ synthetic grass infilled with shredded rubber that provides cushioning.
